More from Day 4

I know that Leslie posted earlier that it was a rough day, but I think God blessed us with positive signs as the day went on. As someone commented on our blog, while we thought we were coming for a toddler and were shocked to find a 4 year old infant, we can handle infants! God wanted us to save her and we will. We feel like we are seeing some progress in little areas. The biggie that did Leslie's heart so well was a giggle from our precious girl. We had made her a pallet on the floor to play with some toys. I had pulled her socks off hoping to give her every opportunity to be stimulated. So I was rubbing her feet and legs and then she laid down so I started rubbing her tummy. I then decided to see if she was ticklish and made my way up to her little arm pits. She is giggling out loud. It was so precious! Leslie almost got whiplash. It did the heart good. Enjoy the pics.

rough day

Hello All,
We did some formal stuff today that took about three hours and it left poor Claire so tired.  We got back and got her down for a nap.  When she wakes up (last night and both times today) she is very confused and cries a lot.  She acts like an infant.  I made a comment today to our Holt guide that I don't think she's ever been talked to or interacted with, and he said that given the ophange she is from he agrees.  Friends, we have one LONG road ahead of us.  She has never been stimulated, nurtured, nourished, or loved.....my heart is broken.  This is the hardet thing we've ever done. Please continue to pray hard for healing, bonding, growth, happiness for Claire, and that my brain can handle this.  I am really struggling.  We can't wait to be home!!! We miss our other kids and my foks so bad...and home, and our friends.  Please pray that our trip wil go ok and that we will see growth in her everyday in every area.  We truly did come to save her life.  Right now our world is praise and worship music, constant prayer aloud over her and each other, constantly taking captive the thoughts that the enemy is screaming at us. Thank you for your kind words.  Right now they are medicine to my soul.  Only God can get us through this and perform the miracles that this sweet girl needs......

In His grip,

Gotcha Day

 Hello All,
Chris mentioned on Facebook the other day that adoption was not for the feint of heart and today was another testament to that. We got our girl....and as I sit here and type, I am truly heartbroken and worried.  She is SO SO tiny.....she looks and acts like a 6 month old, and she is 4 years old.  When they brought her in, the sheer lack of size was intimidating and heartwrenching.  To say she is delayed, in every way, is a massive understatement.  I am not proud of my reaction-shear fear-but my amazing husband was ever the rock.  How he keeps his cool, sense of humor, and focus in EVERY situation, I will NEVER know.  But, he has been amazing.  We have both shed many tears,  some happy and  some very sad, but we went up to our room, put our praise music on, laid hands on our baby girl, and PRAYED like never before.  So that's what I am asking you to do today:  PRAY!!!!!! Please put her on every prayer chain you can think of, and pray that God will touch and heal her mind, body, and spirit.  They said that she won't eat solids...well, we had her less than 5 minutes and she was eating some puffs that we brought her.  They just didn't feed her!!  They just didn't feed her!!!!!!  Every single thing I brought her to wear, mostly 18 months to 2T, simply falls off....her tiny shoes, some of them 3's, fall off....so we will get a small amout of things here in this province, then we will get more in Goungzhou.  We need a stroller, we need different formula, she won't drink what we brought her.  Beth Stueve, if you are reading this, please leave me a message and help me figure out what to feed her, they said she drinks a certain formula here..should we go buy that until we can get home? We gave her a bath...Chris will post the picture....it was not the picture I had in my mind.  Please also pray for peace for me......I almost had a panic attack those first few hours.....this is awful......We layered her clothes up, and she is now asleep in her crib...which reminds me....we need a crib ASAP!  There is NO WAY she can sleep in her toddler bed, and I think she needs her own bed.....We have a mattress, so just the crib, and hopefully not for more than a year or so.  We gave her some carrots, and some came out of her nose....so the palate is definately open but I have not been able to bring myslef to look in there yet.  Her teeth are black and she grinds her teeth almost non-stop.  Friends and family.....I'm pretty sure God sent us here to save her life.  Why us?  I'll never know.  I can't put into words my emotions today.  Too many...We have the four most amazing kids at home....I pray that they understand that we HAD to go get her.....it really was life or death.....I may call on many of you to help me, and for me that's sometimes hard, but this is not about me, this is about Claire, and right now she and I both need our support team.  Pray friends! Pray for healing for our sweet girl, pray for clarity and sound mind for me, for strength for Chris as he is having to be so strong right now, pray for our health as this is so hard and this area is simply filthy.....I'm quite content to stay in this hotel until we leave for Goungzhou....thank you so much, and here are a few pics of today....
Crying out to Him tonight,
Chris and Leslie

P.S.  she truly is beautiful :-)

Ready to get our girl

Leslie has all of Claire's stuff spread out for her to see when we get her back to the room. She has been working so hard to make it look perfect for our little girl. She just wants to convey to Claire in any way possible that we love her so much. T minus 5-1/2 hours. We are getting so close! By the time we get our girl, most of you will be fast asleep. It should be about 1:30 in the morning central time.

Well we are going to head down to breakfast with the Pellegrino's here in a few minutes.

P.S. - The arrangement of Claire's items as shown in the attached pictures has been rearranged and/or tweaked 3 or 4 times since I took these pics. I love my wife!

Day 2 - first full day in Lanzhou 1 of 2

Day 2, our first full day in Lanzhou, was a really good one. We got up and Skyped the kids, got ready and went down and had a pretty good breakfast. We then explored the hotel a little bit and came back to the room and made a few more calls. Then we decided to do a little exploring. We didn't go too far, and made our way back to the hotel to find the other Holt couple traveling with us. We got in touch with them and we all really hit it off. We all did a little more exploring, got some lunch together, and then expanded our exploration. We walked down to the Yellow River and saw the Zhong Shan Iron Bridge, which is a tourist attraction and one of the first river crossings. We made our way across the bridge to the foot of the mountains where they have restored some of the ancient Chinese architecture and we walked around that area for a while and took a lot of pics. After we had seen enough, we started making our way back towards the hotel and stopped in a little bakery and then ventured down a couple of side streets to get a real culture shock as you see just how some of these people live. We eventually made it back to the hotel for a break and to clean up a little bit and then we all headed out again for supper. By this time, the streets were packed with street vendors selling all sorts of things. We decided on KFC, which I shared with our small group, probably stands for Kentucky Fried Cat. :-) It was a great day and we are exhausted. Our new friends are from Maryland by way of New York and are really nice people. They are adopting their first child, who is a little boy that is only 6 months younger than Claire. We laughed and told stories all afternoon and we are all so excited to get our children tomorrow. The first part of this trip is completely differenet than our trip with Jack, but is just as wonderful. It is amazing the God works things out, and thus far, the trip could not have gone any better. Well, it is late and I have stayed up much longer than I wanted to while fighting with this computer to try and get this update out. I actually fell asleep once while I was sitting here waiting on this stupid thing. The next blog should be an exciting one.

Day 2 - first full day in Lanzhou 2 of 2

Shots in the hotel & from our window

Our hotel is very nice. As you can see from the view of our room, Lanzhou is typical and dirty. Lanzhou is bordered to the North and South by mountain ranges which you can also see in the pics. The Yellow river runs right through the middle of town. With the mountains and river, there is some beautiful scenery. More to come!

Sophie's Song

Our friend Thad Fiscella wrote a song for our little Sophie. How cool is that! He has offered to share the profits from the sale of this song to help us bring Sophie home. If you would like to hear a sample of the song or purchase a copy for your self, please visit: http://thadfiscella.bandcamp.com

Please help us get our precious Sophia home by making a donation!
